What is XRPL?
The XRP Ledger is a public network and shared record of accounts, assets and transactions. XRP is its native asset; issued tokens are separate assets.
Three things to know
- A ledger version records an agreed state of the network.
- Applications and explorers are interfaces to the ledger, not the ledger itself.
- Public ledger activity is observable, but an account address alone does not establish a real-world identity.
A practical example
Two explorers may present the same validated transaction differently. Compare its transaction hash, network and ledger index before treating them as different events.
Technical detail
Servers maintain ledger state and process transactions according to protocol rules. Validators publish validations; applications can subscribe to public-server events. An individual endpoint’s uptime and view are not a guarantee of complete global coverage.
Common misunderstanding
A project appearing on XRPL is not automatically endorsed by Ripple or XRP Legacy.
