XRPL Product Ideas

Seven proposed concepts, presented for research and discussion. These are not live services, verified market opportunities or an approved XRPL roadmap. Open each idea for its complete supplied approach, business model and risks.

CONCEPT / 01

Micro-tipping and streaming payments

Pay creators per second watched or per article read, with no subscription.

How it works

  1. The viewer funds a Payment Channel (PaymentChannelCreate) to the creator, e.g. 5 XRP, with a settle delay (e.g. 1 day).
  2. While watching, the viewer's app signs off-ledger claims for rising cumulative amounts every few seconds. Nothing hits the ledger.
  3. The creator's server verifies each signature and keeps only the latest, highest claim.
  4. When the session ends, the creator submits it via PaymentChannelClaim and gets paid in one transaction.
  5. Unused funds return to the viewer when the channel closes after the settle delay.

Components

browser/mobile wallet signing claims, creator dashboard, verification server, embeddable "pay-as-you-watch" widget.

Revenue

small platform fee, or SaaS pricing for creators.

Risks

viewer must pre-fund (friction); wallet onboarding is the hard part. Custodial "session wallets" help.

CONCEPT / 02

Cross-border freelancer payouts

A client pays in USD, the freelancer receives local currency, settlement in seconds.

How it works

  1. Client pays in a USD stablecoin issued on XRPL (e.g. RLUSD) or in XRP.
  2. Backend builds a cross-currency Payment with SendMax and path-finding, routing through the native order book and AMM pools to the destination asset.
  3. Use DeliverMin or the partial-payment flag carefully so the freelancer receives at least the quoted amount.
  4. Recipient cashes out via a regional off-ramp partner (bank, mobile money). Destination tags identify the user on the off-ramp's shared address.

Components

quote engine (live path-finding), invoicing UI, KYC layer, off-ramp integrations, tax/receipt exports.

Revenue

spread of roughly 0.3-1%, far below typical remittance fees.

Risks

thin liquidity in exotic pairs; off-ramps and compliance are the real business, not the chain.

CONCEPT / 03

Ticketing with controlled resale

Tickets that can be resold, but never above face value plus a small margin.

How it works

  1. Organizer mints tickets with NFTokenMint, setting TransferFee (royalty up to 50%) so the organizer earns on every resale. URI points to event metadata.
  2. IMPORTANT: the ledger does NOT enforce a price cap. Royalties take a cut but don't limit price. The cap needs a design choice: mint tickets non-transferable or transferable only to the platform account; resales happen through the platform marketplace, where the seller lists via an NFT sell offer with the Destination field locked to the platform's broker account, and the service rejects asks above the cap.
  3. Entry: the attendee's wallet shows a rotating QR signed by their key; the scanner checks ownership on-ledger.
  4. After check-in, the ticket is burned (if minted burnable) or swapped for a collectible proof-of-attendance.

Components

organizer console, buyer wallet (email/social login for non-crypto users), broker service, scanner app.

Revenue

primary-sale fee plus a share of the royalty.

Risks

off-platform trades if tickets are freely transferable; most buyers lack wallets, so abstract them away.

CONCEPT / 04

Cross-game item marketplace

Items that outlive a single game and can be traded or rented.

How it works

  1. Unique items (e.g. a legendary sword) are NFTs. Stackable items (potions, gold) are fungible tokens: Multi-Purpose Tokens ⚠️ Verify status as the newer option, or standard trust-line tokens.
  2. Each game studio gets an issuer account. Metadata (stats, art) lives off-chain with a hash on-ledger.
  3. Games read the player's wallet via the XRPL API and grant in-game effects per item.
  4. Rental: the owner lists the item; the renter pays a deposit plus fee into Escrow ⚠️ Verify status (token escrow support is newer). A game-side or operator account grants temporary usage rights, and escrow releases the fee to the owner at term end. XRPL doesn't natively lend an NFT without custody, so rentals use a custodial holding account or a sidechain with smart logic.
  5. Studios earn creator royalties through TransferFee.

Components

Unity/Unreal SDK, indexer, marketplace site, item-standards registry.

Risks

cross-game balance; needs per-game "interpretation" layers.

CONCEPT / 05

Tokenized invoice financing

A business sells an unpaid invoice at a discount for immediate cash.

How it works

  1. Business uploads an invoice. A verifier (platform plus the buyer's confirmation) attests it's real, using Credentials ⚠️ Verify status or a signed memo.
  2. An NFT representing the receivable is minted with the invoice hash in metadata (never the invoice itself).
  3. Investors bid on an NFT offer (e.g. 97 USD stablecoin for a 100 USD invoice due in 60 days).
  4. The customer pays into an escrow or designated account; funds go to the investor automatically.
  5. Late/defaulted invoices follow a pre-agreed process (e.g. recourse to the seller).

Components

invoice ingestion and fraud checks, credit scoring, investor dashboard, legal wrapper (SPV), collections flow.

Revenue

percentage of the discount.

Risks

most regulated idea here (securities and lending law varies by country); double-financing fraud is the central risk, mitigated by an on-chain hash registry.

CONCEPT / 06

Verifiable credential wallet

Prove you're over 18, licensed, or a verified employee without revealing anything else.

How it works

  1. A person creates a DID ⚠️ Verify status on-ledger (DIDSet) pointing to a document with public keys.
  2. An issuer (university, licensing board) signs a verifiable credential off-chain and may record a Credential object on-ledger ⚠️ Verify status to show it exists and isn't revoked. Personal data stays off-chain.
  3. A verifier (bar, lending DEX, job site) asks the wallet for a proof; the wallet presents the signed credential, and the verifier checks the issuer's signature and on-ledger revocation status.
  4. For privacy ("over 18" without a birth date), pair with zero-knowledge proofs off-chain.
  5. Gated access can also be used on-chain, e.g. permissioned pools only credentialed accounts may use.

Components

wallet app, issuer onboarding portal, verifier SDK, revocation registry.

Revenue

issuer/verifier subscriptions, per-verification fees.

Risks

trust is the product, so you need respected issuers; chicken-and-egg adoption.

CONCEPT / 07

Community treasury and milestone crowdfunding

Backers fund a project, and money only moves as milestones are approved.

How it works

  1. Treasury account uses a signer list (SignerListSet) of e.g. 5 elected members with a 3-of-5 quorum, so no single person can move funds.
  2. Each backer creates an EscrowCreate to the project with a CancelAfter date and a crypto-condition (hash lock). Only the milestone committee holds the secret.
  3. When a milestone is verified (backer vote tallied off-chain or by signers), the committee reveals the secret and the creator finishes the escrows tied to that milestone.
  4. If a milestone fails or the deadline passes, anyone can cancel the escrow after CancelAfter and funds return to the backer automatically.
  5. Votes can be weighted by contribution and recorded as signed memos for transparency.

Components

campaign pages, milestone tracker, voting interface, explorer-style transparency view.

Revenue

small fee on successful campaigns.

Risks

escrow logic is rigid (time and hash conditions only); complex governance may need an off-chain layer or smart-contract sidechain.
